lyrics

the last time we were in the waves together
was a hundred years ago

just for an hour or so
we couldn't stop time
but we sure slowed it down

the beach and the blue sky
both went on and on forever

the surf in our ears, an endless sound

wash away the guilt and shame
that live in the wrinkles in my brow

the kids out swimming stopped and stared
as two old men came out to play
two little boys, both pushing 50
there couldn't be a better way

take me out into those waves
dip me in the salty sea
and all of my fears
wash them off of me

the last time we were in the waves together
was a hundred years ago

the little boy that lives inside
comes out to play with eyes so wide
with delight
he knows just what to do
when i step aside and let him through

the kids out swimming stopped and stared
as two old men came out to play
two little boys, both pushing 50
there couldn't be a better way

take me out into those waves
dip me in the salty sea
and all of my fears
wash them off of me
