white noise
02:32
|
|||
take the lint brush
to the sport coat
bought a life boat
but it don't float
read the report
life was cut short
and i'm wondering if there was something
i coulda done
find my khakis
and my nice shoes
head to the funeral
wooden church pews
he lived it his way
paying big dues
i'm still walkin, i'm still talking
generating white noise
i'm generating white noise

just another punk turning 50
another metal head without a clue
just another punk turning 50
betting you will misconstrue
vinyl disappeared
and came back
never should have sold
that 8-track tape deck
riding waves oh so high
now face down in the sand
i'll meet you in the
ice cream shoppe of the damned
yet another politician feeling nifty
oh so power mad without a clue
oh another politician grifty
gives a zero *umph* about me and you
keep your head down
look away
live to lie
another day
just another punk turning 50
another metal head without a clue
just another punk turning 50
kinda looks a lot like me and you
riding waves oh so high
now face down in the sand
i'll meet you in the
ice cream shoppe of the damned

Donkey basketball is a variation on the standard game of basketball, played on a standard basketball court, but in which the players ride donkeys. A donkey basketball game is usually staged as a one-shot fundraising event, typically in public schools. Commercial farms provide donkeys and equipment, splitting the proceeds with the hiring party. Donkey basketball has been practiced in the United States since the 1930s.
Donkey basketball has been targeted by animal rights activists who claim that the sport is cruel to animals, for reasons such as the inexperience of participants with handling the donkeys. Promoters counter that the events are supervised and the animals are treated humanely.

they all showed up
in their pickup trucks
with their shovels and their pitchforks and their torches
yelling, "we've got to outlaw that donkey basketball"
We spread our tarps out in the gym
to cover up the floor
bring the little burros in
and settle up the score
now i've seen everything,
everything under the sun
all in the name of having fun
black out the windows
and lock the doors
bring out the tarps
and cover up the floors
it's real, i promise
you'll see what i mean
cheerleading for an underground
donkey basketball team
here on my donkey, no one can stop me
i ride in glory to the free throw line
here on my donkey i can let my bright light shine

big money
06:30
|
|||
somebody gets paid big money
to find the next big pop star
somebody gets paid big money
to find the next pretty face
somebody gets paid big money
to use my childhood music against me
somebody gets paid big money
to keep me slightly unsatisfied
but only from the cradle to the grave
somebody gets paid big money
to remind me i'm not good enough
somebody gets paid big money
to say i'm not complete
somebody whispering
i've only got myself to thank
somebody whistling
all the way to the bank
somebody gets paid big money
to find the next big pop star
somebody gets paid big money
to find the next pretty face
every year another boy band
every year another slave hand
every year a new pretty face
pick it up so you can win the race
every year a new brand new way
to feed the fire
tickle desire
mail you a flyer
somebody gets paid big money
to keep me checking the news
somebody gets paid big money
always trying to light my fuse
somebody knows what happens
if i use my mind to think
somebody got a better design
for the perfect kitchen sink
just as long as i live in fear
a promise of peace remains unclear
and all the stuff that i hold dear
obsolete, obsolete, obsolete
but only from the cradle to the grave...

sunny days
03:45
|
|||
i look to the edges of my dreams
i see nothing's quite the way it seems
"the crowd effervesced with enthusiasm
those were the sunny days"
we were trapped before it even started
we did not dare to tell the truth
"the crowd effervesced with enthusiasm
those were the sunny days"
(excerpt from "The Button")
after ripping off the blindfold
he fumbles to get it back on
before he sees too much
but it's too late
his eyes have fallen upon the truth
and now etched upon his heart
he cannot undo, he cannot undo

my vigilance
03:53
|
|||
(check it)
i’m standing guard
(check it again)
i’m standing guard
(did you check it?)
i’m standing guard
(better check it again)
i’m standing guard until my relief shows up
lock the doors
bar the windows
walk the floors
secure the perimeter
i’ve got a habit
a nervous trick
like an amateur
magic trick
my vigilance will be rewarded one day
my vigilance
my vigilance
lock the doors
bar the windows
walk the floors
secure the perimeter
i’m standing guard
i’m standing guard
i’m standing guard
i’m standing guard until my relief shows up
it’s time for bed
but only i can see
the way to avoid
more misery
successfully
infecting me
and all it costs
is sanity
automatic
i’m standing guard
i’m standing guard

sleep study

what kind of 9 year-old boy
begs for this kind of toy?
a plastic diamond engagement ring
from the pizza place gum ball machine
a boy whose world is falling apart
or maybe broken from the start
if he can marry the neighbor girl for a wife
maybe she can save his life
my sleep study isn't going so well
the electrodes keep slipping off
and maybe when he's 50 or so
he'll start to see what we already know
and if he's lucky he can set aside
the constant need to run and hide
will he wake up
before the day he dies?

enchanting the enchanter
04:52
|
|||
it's time to say goodnight
and wish you a pleasant flight
close your eyes and fall into sleep
surrender as you travel to the deep
you're enchanting the enchanter
in that other world
you're no ordinary girl
brushing stars with your toes
spreading laughter everywhere you go
and vengeance finally laid to rest
let it slide right off your chest
you've got a secret
what's your secret?
you're enchanting the enchanter
you sip your coffee
with a smile on your face
can't quite recall what you did
in that other place
i suppose you can never
take me with you
but that's okay, because every day
i write another song to sing you
you're enchanting the enchanter
